This website has been created to mark the 70th anniversary of the running of the first sub-4 minute mile on May 6th, 1954, by Roger Bannister. His time was 3 minutes 59.4 seconds.

The current world record for the mile, set on July 7th, 1999, is held by Hicham El Guerrouj (Morocco) with a time of 3 minutes 43.13 seconds.
